There are at least eight or nine bars in Burgau, and numerous restaurants serving really interesting Algarvian and international food (randomly, there's even a good Indian restaurant).  Vegetarian options are often not well advertised on the menu, but if you ask (certainly the case in our Restaurant) there are a usually some good options.  Everything here is locally run.

glorias

Nightlife-wise, no matter what you are after, it is probably available - either in, or within 15 minutes of, Burgau.  The Portuguese are very sociable and welcome everyone..  Whether you are after a quiet night taste testing different Portuguese coffees and liquours whilst listening to the waves breaking on the beach, clubbing in Lagos, or just people watching from your balcony, there is something for you.

Burgau is a fairly quiet village and the locals who run the bars want to keep it that way.  To ensure it stays peaceful, bars turn the music down, shut windows and encourage drinkers to come inside after midnight, shortly after 2am the village goes to sleep.

Top photo : Relaxing in a Glorias, a quiet open air bar on the slipway in Burgau  (above: same bar, with our complex in the background). Gloria is Miguel's mother, and often sits in her cafe/bar until late at night whilst knitting and smiling at passers by.  Gloria also makes great toasties for lunch.

The Veranda bar (above left: great breakfasts and lunches) or Smugglers (above right) are both in the centre of the village and tend to be the liveliest places to go without heading to Lagos.  You can also enjoy a quiet drink on the terrace at our bar (which also does very good lunches), overlooking the bay, or indulge in Kareoke elsewhere.

nightlife

In nearby Lagos (above), a number of night market stalls, restaurants and a lively night out can be enjoyed until the next morning... (there is a taxi rank in Lagos which is normally full of taxis waiting for you, from 3am-6am you might have to wait for up to 15 minutes).
